My relationship with making is the meditation of mind and hand. My creative process relies on the ability to paint outside, knowing that I am uplifted and stirred in a natural environment. During the making process there are multiple layers of consideration, the push and pull of color, opacity, and texture are among the most vital. Spray painted elements are combined with found patterns to create a surface that invites the viewer in to take part within a intimate dialog. The application of materials is often energetic, resulting in layers that capture that sense of movement and rhythmic search for balance. Up-cycled elements are included whenever possible, I am overcome with joy when I engage with something found and it can be utilized as a substrate. Through these elements, I seek to expose the thoughtless consumption and disregard of materials in our society. Raw gritty elements juxtapose the use of feminine lace and bright colors, playfully transforming daily refuse into renewed purpose.Through the abstraction of natural elements, quick brushstrokes, and heavy use of patterning I want the viewer to experience the work as an act of release and healing; a visual meditation. |
